January Thank You

Jan 17, 2018

The beginning of a new year is always a good time to reflect back on the previous year, to celebrate the achievements realized and to plan for the year ahead.

Although 2017 began as likely the most challenging time for this organization, which was experiencing its first labour disruption, the focus for quality service to children, youth and families was the primary focus for all. In spite of this very lengthy labour disruption, the outcomes achieved by staff throughout the entire year are commendable.

Here are a few highlights from January 1 to December 31, 2017:

  • 28 children were placed on adoption and these adoptions have been finalized
  • 26 children were placed on adoption probation with the view of finalization within 6 months
  • 88 children were placed with family (kin) instead of coming into foster care
  • The number of children and youth in the care of the Society was reduced, from 187 to 169

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank those that provided donations during this past Christmas season. The generosity of individuals in our communities is phenomenal and often breathtaking. From businesses and organizations providing truckloads of gifts, to children coming in, donating the balance of their “piggy bank” to make sure a child has a gift under the tree.

This year the Christmas Smiles Campaign sponsored 302 youth and 90 families as one of our most successful campaigns to date!

Some of our big sponsors include:

Ontario Power Generation North Bay (sponsoring 16% of our families), Nipissing University (sponsoring 15.5% of our families), Ontario Power Generation Mattawa  (sponsoring 8% of our families) and of course McDonalds Toy Drive with Rogers Radio (which sponsored 16% of our families)

We also had many other corporate sponsors:

Optimum Insurance Company
Northern Credit Union (dropped off TONS of pjs)
PetSmart (donated 300 teddy bears for each youth)
Creative Learning
Battalion Hockey (teddybear toss)
Masonic Nipissing Lodge 420
Gateway Physiotherapy
Yes Employment
NBRHC, Ortho and Enviro Sciences
Health Unit (North Bay and Parry Sound)
Dr. Dent
TransCanada Restaurant and Supply
Friends Forever Childcare
Accounts Payable Department, Ministry of Child and Youth Services
Vanda Tetreault Photography
North Bay Naturopaths
North Bay Fire and Emergency Services
Union of Ontario Indians
Metric Aid
Rivet Insurance
Accounts Payable at Ontario Shared Services
The Abbey

Source For Sports

Plus, hundreds of individuals donated personally to the campaign.

We look forward to the 2018 as we continue to focus on our 6 Strategic Priorities. We sincerely thank you for the support you’ve provided us and for encouraging us as we continue to focus on our children, youth and families.

All the best in 2018!
