Mourning the Loss of a Hero

Feb 14, 2018

The Children's Aid Society extends our sincerest sympathy to the family of George Birimcombe on his sudden passing.

Today we give thanks for George Birimcombe. The sudden passing of George has had a profound impact on our organization. For the past 15 years, George played a pivotal role within our Community as a foster parent, volunteer driver and adoptive parent.

Everyone who had the privilege of coming into contact with George was touched by his awesome sense of humour and his caring, compassionate attitude towards life. Whether it was a joke, his sarcasm, or big smile, George was a delight to be around. George was a humble man who never realized the impact he was making in the lives of the children he came into contact with everyday. For example, George had been driving a little boy for several years and the love between George and this child was real and mutual. This little boy would pretend to be asleep at the end of every drive home so that George would have to carry him into the house. George’s many contributions to his community will be cherished.

George will be missed dearly. The Children’s Aid Society extends our sincerest sympathy to Donna, George’s children and grandchildren. We hope George’s family can find peace in knowing that George made a difference in so many lives during his time with us.

“We live in a world in we need to share responsibility. It’s easy to say ‘It’s not my child, not my community, not my problem.’ Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes.”
- Fred Rogers
