Court Orders Picket Line Protocol for CUPE Local 2049 and CAS

Mar 23, 2017

The Ontario Superior Court of Justice today issued an injunction requiring members of CUPE Local 2049 and the Ontario Children’s Aid Society of the District of Nipissing and Parry Sound (NPCAS) to comply with a Picket Line Protocol.

The Protocol requires both parties to ensure that picketing activity is “conducted in a safe and responsible manner.”

The Protocol includes guidelines requiring that “Picketers will not delay clients, foster parents, volunteer drivers, non-Nipissing and Parry Sound CAS tenants and the general public from entering the CAS buildings,” and establishes that “CUPE recognizes the right of the NPCAS to operate through a work stoppage.” It also establishes that the CAS “recognizes the right of CUPE and its members to picket during the lockout” and “to use peaceful means to distribute information during picketing activity.”
