Family Activities for March 25, 26

First Spring weekend is finally here! It’s still snowy outside, but we’ll be seeing less winter and more summer activities soon. Are you getting yourselves ready for the new season of outdoor fun? And now, here is the list of events going on this weekend.

Pancake Breakfast at Powassan United Church

Cost is adults $10, children $5, preschoolers free. Includes pancakes, real maple syrup, bacon, sausages, juice and coffee. Everyone welcome.

NAISA Sound Bash Installation

From March 11 to April 23, NAISA's exhibition space will be filled with a new selection of everyday objects especially selected for the interesting sounds they make when struck or played, offering you a chance to play with sound and manipulate it live. Open Saturday and Sundays March 11 - April 30, 11am - 4pm or by appointment. The Sound Bash is designed to be a family-friendly installation, offering interactive and sonic storytelling possibilities. Children of all ages can play, strike, pluck, or tap a collection of found objects that are amplified and modified to reveal unusual sounds that they didn't think were possible. Pay-What-You-Can.

Taffy Pull

The annual Taffy Pull organized by the South River-Machar Agricultural Society. The event will be held at the McLaren Farm where Ron McLaren and Meredith operate the family-run maple syrup business.
A new event at this year’s taffy pull is the Bunker Hill Egg Toss championship. Saturday’s event also features wagon rides to the sugar bush where the sap is gathered from maple trees to eventually become maple syrup.  The public can also get tours of the sugar shack. In addition, there are photo opportunities with bunnies and kids can have their faces painted. There is no admission charge to the taffy pull.

2017 Eat Around the Sound Workshop Series

This workshop celebrates and explores small scale maple syrup production. Then travel by bus for a guided tour of a Wasauksing First Nation commercial sugar operation. Please bring rubber boots. Admission is by donation. Space is limited, please register by phone.

Country Dance Family Event

Powassan Lions Pancake Breakfast

The Powassan Lions Club will host pancake breakfasts at the Glendale Community Hall. Buffet style breakfast includes pancakes, local maple syrup, sausage, eggs, ham, fruit and beverages. All ages, adults - $10, kids - $6, toddlers free.

Public Skating - Humphrey
