New CAS-CUPE Talks End Without Agreement: CAS to Explore Options

Mar 30, 2017

NORTH BAY, ON – The fourth round of negotiations between the Children’s Aid Society of the District of Nipissing and Parry Sound (CAS) and CUPE Local 2049 ended today without an agreement. CUPE continued to maintain a ‘No Concessions’ stance, as it has in each successive round of negotiations.

“We are disappointed that CUPE has once again refused to consider any sort of compromise on the Sick Leave Benefit, especially given the enormous costs it imposes as well as the direct impact on service,” said Gisèle Hébert, Executive Director, Nipissing and Parry Sound CAS. “We have made major concessions on many issues raised by the union, and ask only for modest changes in this one area that are crucial to our organization’s financial viability. Our latest offer reflects the enormous efforts we have made to come to an agreement and get our employees back to work.”

John Stopper, Interim President of the CAS Board of Directors, remarked, “We are now entering the 15th week of this work disruption with no concessions from CUPE. The board will now consider our next steps and will explore the options available to us.”
