Dear Ms. Young,

RE: Child Abuse Awareness Month Poster Challenge

Every October, Ontario Children’s Aid Societies raise awareness regarding identification and prevention of child abuse. “Dress Purple Day” is October 24, 2017. This year the Children’s Aid Society for the district of Nipissing and Parry Sound plans to take raising awareness one step further. Along with “Dress Purple Day”, we would like to propose a poster challenge to the grades three to six classrooms.

The poster challenge is an awareness campaign aimed at recognizing strengths in children. The goal of the poster challenge, “My Inner and Outer Strengths” is to engage students creatively and intellectually.

The winning poster will be framed and displayed in the Society’s future location. The focus of our new building is, “Community focused, community driven”, what no better way to express this then involving schools in our community. As well, the winning classroom will also receive a hot chocolate and popcorn party served to them by Children’s Aid staff.

With your approval, our Community Services Intern, Katherine Davis, will contact schools directly to involve the participating classrooms. All participation is voluntary and at the discretion of the principal or the teacher.

The contest rules are outlined below:

Posters can be no larger than 24 x 32 inches
Posters can be created using any medium (paper, pencil, paint, computer software, photographs*, etc.) *photographs must not contain people
Designs can be submitted in black and white or colour
All designs must be original ideas
Name and address must be marked on the back of the design submitted
Entry must include school name, name of teacher, grade and class
All submitted posters become the property of the Children’s Aid Society for the district of Nipissing and Parry Sound
Please submit all posters no later than 4:00 pm on October 25th, 2017 to the attention of Katherine Davis.
The winner will be announced on Friday, October 27th, 2017.
Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Katherine at 705-472-0910 ext.7222 or by email at

We look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards,

Gisèle Hébert
