The Circle of Security Parenting Program
At times, parents can feel lost, or without a clue about what their child might need from us. Imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child is really asking from you. The Circle of Security® Parenting™ programs based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened.
What Circle of Security will Help Caregivers do:
- Understand their child’s emotional world by learning to read emotional needs
- Support their child’s ability to successfully manage emotions.
- Enhance the development of their child’s self esteem
- Honor the innate wisdom and desire for their child to be secure
Learning to apply the Circle of Security Parenting Program in your family is like a road map that will help caregivers shift the focus away from trying to change undesirable behaviours with rewards and punishment, to seeing behavior as communication of a need and changing the behavior by meeting that need. Soon enough, caregivers will be able to explore new ways to respond sensitively to children’s cues and even gain insight regarding ways to manage their own struggles around certain attachment needs.
What to Expect with the Circle of Security Program:
The Circle of Security Parenting program is an eight-week voluntary program for parents of children aged 4 months to 6 years. Each session is approximately 1.5 hours. COSP is most effective for participants who want to strengthen their connection with their children and learn strategies for navigating parenting challenges. COSP facilitators are well-trained and enjoy supporting caregivers throughout the program. The program is highly recommended; more than 89% of participants report gaining parenting skills and feeling more confident as parents after completing it.
