Youth in Care
Post Secondary Education
Youth in care are encouraged to pursue post secondary education and are provided support with the application process, applying for OSAP and getting ready for the great experience of post secondary education.
All eligible youth in care receive an RESP started by Society to assist with post secondary cost. New government initiatives provide all youth from care grants through OSAP to cover tuition and text books.
Also through the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies, YouthCAN (Communication & Advocacy Network) has become a great support for youth in care. They advocate for the needs of our youth and bring our youth together yearly at conferences located on campuses where youth learn about post secondary education opportunities, life skill, ongoing initiatives, and most importantly meet and support other youth in care.
YICSource.ca is the Nipissing, Parry Sound and Muskoka Children’s Aid Society’s youth web portal: A website created for youth in care (or formerly in care), by youth in care. Created by CASNPS’s Youth Network Coordinator, you can find information here regarding discussions, Youth Group meetings & information, links for bursary & scholarship applications, how to stay connected to other youth, and can even share experiences.
